Frequently asked questions
What are flexible packaging films?
Flexible packaging films are essential to manufacturers of consumer goods. They are the basis of all flexible/soft plastic types of packaging, and begin with blown or cast films which are made into ready-to-use rolls. These can be transformed into pre-made packing bags or pouches, or used with packing machinery to create sachets and packs on the filling line.
These films are specified for all packaging needs, from simple single-layer packaging to multi-laminate structures. Because many plastic films can be crafted to be heat-sealable, they are widely used in the food packaging industry.
Can you recycle flexible packaging films?
O F Packaging is acknowledging the importance of an environment-friendly packaging solution. We are investing in sustainable packaging solutions and doing our part to improve the waste-stream infrastructure in Australia.
While flexible plastic packaging is not currently accepted at kerbside collection in Australia, products made to the right specifications can be returned to Redcycle bins across the country for collection.
Local councils, governments, and packaging experts like O F Pack are working together with Material Recovery Facilities (MRF) on a solution to the issue, which would see flexible plastic recycling rates rise dramatically and keep the majority of material out of the landfill.
The important next step is to increase the buy-back market for post-consumer recycled plastics, to ensure all of this recycled material is being reused. This can be for non-packaging related items, such as those already made by companies like Replas , or for re-melting back into films for packaging materials once we have eliminated issues of contamination.
Flexible packaging films have become an industry staple and have evolved over the years. It won’t be long until this type of packaging becomes fully recyclable.
What is flexible film packaging made of?
This type of packaging is made from different materials and has a wide range of inter-industry applications.
The most popular polymers used for flexible packaging films include Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), and various types of Polypropylene (PP). These two film groups can be used either on their own, or in conjunction with other films such as Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) and Polyvinylidene Chloride (PVDC) for added protection against oxygen. In some cases, even Polyamide (PA- Nylon) or Aluminium Foil (AL) can be used for high-performance and protection.
Each type of film has its own strengths and weaknesses, which is why flexible packaging often uses a combination of various films to ensure the perfect specification for a particular product and requirement.
Can I customise my flexible film packaging?
Yes. You can customise your order based on your specific packaging formats and graphics. We assure extensive quality control throughout production to give our customers peace of mind.

“We first started doing business with O F Packaging via a new innovation project- An “Oven Ready” bag for our Bag ‘N’ Bake Seafood range. O F took on the project without delay, and to say we were impressed would be an understatement.
They understood what we were trying to achieve, and sought to bring us the leading technology for our market. This project set the tone for future dealings with O F Packaging- No matter the time of year or how busy their workflow is, they are always calm, professional and work in a timely manner.
Nothing is ever too much of a problem for them, no matter how big of an expectation we present.”
